A mystery tree

Another one of these odd days which starts off dull and ends up - dull. We just had to get out this morning so went for a walk around the local  streets without losing too much height. We passed this amazing tree, which although a very poor specimen which had seen better days, was in amazing flower and with a fairly strong but not unpleasant scent. I thought it might be a pear of some sort, but the flowers, though pear-like individually, were in large clusters - a closer picture is on as an extra. Having done a bit of investigating when we got home I wondered if it was Pyrus calleryana, from China and Vietnam, though the scent is described, among other things, as the stink of rotting fish, which didn't seem to be the case with this one! I must go back tomorrow and knock on the door!

Quote of the Day:

Chanakya  - “The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind. But the goodness of a person spreads in all directions.”
