Talisker

Around eight years ago a dog was instrumental in the meeting of two people. The dog, though only a youngster at the time, had a massive heart which was overflowing with love. He had so much love that it spilled out of him wherever he went and it affected those he met. The two people fell in love and, though far apart, spent as much time together as was possible. Eventually the girl moved north to be with the boy and took the dog with her.
On the beach at Warebeth, the dog met the boy's dog and they too became friends (though the boy's dog often pestered the girl's dog and ragged his neck). The two dogs became inseparable, going everywhere together, chasing stuff and things together and murdering the occasional small furry animal amongst the grass and heather.
Time passed and, watched by the two dogs, the boy proposed to the girl atop a hill with a view of the sea cliffs and a vast expanse of sea. The girl accepted the proposal and a while later the marriage happened. On the morning of the wedding, the girl's dog presented the boy with a wedding present. A freshly murdered and only slightly masticated stoat. The dog was very pleased with himself.
Many adventures were had by the girl, the boy and their dogs. There was always something for the dogs to explore and, even on the darkest of days, the love would continue to spill out of that great big heart and wash over the girl and the boy.
The dog had a sense of humour as well as a heart full of love, and he made the girl and boy laugh long and hard at his antics.
The years passed and the girl and the boy noticed the dog wasn't just quite himself. The vet did some tests and the diagnosis was Cushing's disease. Medication was required and this meant a pill wrapped in ham every morning. The dog thought this was a fabulous idea, and reminded the boy and the girl every day that it was breakfast time. Even when it wasn't breakfast time and breakfast had already been eaten.
After a good long while on the meds, it became clear that other problems were taking hold. Walks were shorter, and the boy's dog was encouraged to do far less neck ragging.
Try as they might, the girl, the boy and the vet got to the stage where they couldn't do anything more for the dog and arrangements were made to bring him peace.
The girl and the boy shed buckets of tears at the impending loss of the dog, and spoiled him with treats and snuggles on the couch and on the bed until it was time for the vet to come.

Thank you Talisker for bringing my beautiful wife and me together. You were the best dog ever.
