Forest School, slugs and

Slow worms!

No pre school today for Eda but we walked down to Alice Park where they run a Forest School in the Community Garden.
I took my coat, a waterproof and an umbrella and we didn’t need any as we’ve had no rain today and it’s been bright and sunny.

The theme today was slugs and so we had a slug hunt around the beds with a magnifying glass! Eda was a bit disappointed not to find one straight away but I suggested we looked under some leaves and she was thrilled to find one which we took back to the teacher to put with the one she had. The children were fascinated watching them put out their antennae and try to escape from the tub. They could then make slugs or snails out of clay if they wanted, Eda brought four home to leave to dry and then paint.

Some of the mums were a bit squeamish but the kids loved it.
We finished the session with a story about a slug called Doug looking for love!

We had a coffee in the park cafe before tackling the hill home where we passed a little girl and her grandad watching a beetle cross the pavement.

Chris had been shredding some branches John cut down last time we were here and he found two Slow Worms. I’ve never seen one before so I’ve put a close up of it’s amazing skin patterns in the extra.

Wildlife doesn’t have to be big and grand to enliven the minds of little ones.
