A time for everything

Iris

Friday
I just love my purple iris around our mailbox - they’re really putting on a good show at present - so I had to choose them for my blip today for Flower Friday.
It was another hot sunny day, and we again enjoyed our breakfast out on the patio. Roger saw another cicada (see Wednesdays blip) on the low corner wall to the patio, which is in the shade of a tree, and when we looked closer around the tree, we could see several more on the trunk, and the underside of one of the branches. One of the cicadas had just come out from its shell - I’ve put a collage in extras. Roger’s Dad called while we were still sitting outside - it was actually an accident, he meant to call Roger’s sister Pamela (!), but since they were on line they had a chat anyway, even though it’s not long since they last talked. Then, perhaps an even bigger surprise, our son called us - Philip is not the best of communicators. We’d had the intention to get out hiking straight after breakfast since it was going to be hot, but by this time it was late morning already! We hiked the trail at Bender Mountain today - as I’ve said before it’s hardly a mountain, but it does have some elevation gain, so good practice for our upcoming short break to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee - we leave on Monday morning for four nights, returning on Friday, before the hordes arrive for the Memorial Day weekend. This evening we went to see the Oscar winning film Nomadland.
