I Can See Clearly Now.....

...The Rain is Gone...but not the cold!  Brrr...only 3 degrees C! So, we were off to a slow start this morning. Bundled up in fleece and afghans, we sipped our morning coffee in the cold, delaying starting a fire because surely, it was going to warm up! Not. At least not enough. But the sun was out and the day was clear so despite the cold, we knew it was going to be a "bright bright bright sunny day" and if we bundled up in quilts, we could lie in that hammock and read or just snooze.

We did have a little detour on our way to Hammock Heaven though. Turned on the tap and NO WATER...like what? That could make the day a little more challenging. We did the usual troubleshooting procedures ..turn off the hot water tank, test the guest cabin to see if it has water, check pump fuses, call daughter who knows these things! Take her advice. Check the pump  and water lines for leaks. By the time all this was done, the water came back on all by itself! What the problem was, who knows?  It did make us think though -  about the old days when the cottage had no electricity, no running water, no telephone, no indoor toilet facilities. That's when life on an island was REALLY complicated..a little pump that breaks down does not compare!  All that reminiscing and wondering how mom and dad managed under those conditions made for good conversation down on the dock sitting in that bright sunshine, still wrapped in fleece and blankets, watching the hummingbirds feeding, the mergansers lounging and the heron strolling along on the shore of our little back bay. One more time we thanked our parents for leaving us this island...how more lucky could we be?

It is my last day here...I leave for home tomorrow by water taxi; my sister will stay on as her daughter and family are arriving for the weekend. I won't be  gone long..if all goes well, I will return in about a week...
