Wound up in Wexford

On the move

We had been planning to move up to Aberfeldy today, but that accommodation fell through.  When looking for an alternative, it seemed we would have to go much further north, or over to the west.  So we opted to go west.

We took a slow and winding drive across to Dumfries and Galloway, and are now in a lovely cottage on a farm about 10 miles south of Newton Stewart.

The weather has definitely taken a turn for the better - we were positively hot at times in the car.

We drove along the side of St Mary's Loch, on the A708, and at one point were able to pull to the side if the road.  The loch was absolutely still.  At this point we were looking for somewhere to get refreshments, and shortly after, at the point where St Mary's Loch ends and Loch of the Lowes starts, there was a coffee shop.  But it was heaving, cars, cyclists, motorcyclists.  We didn't stop.

Instead, we drove on into Moffat, where we had coffee in one of the hotels on the high street.  And then we had a leisurely drive down the old Carlisle Road to Lockerbie.  Here we had lunch, and picked up a bit of shopping, and then after Dumfries, we took a scenic route along the Solway coast to reach our lodgings.

All in all, a pleasant day, though rather sedentary - we need to get some exercise tomorrow.
