Day 1 Bathurst to Dubbo

This blip is of Mount Canobolis (approx 1400m) which is a familiar landmark in the central west. It is the last mountain for many thousands of kilometres.

We stayed at my sister’s farm (MsPeahen) overnight. The internet is poor and I was unable to upload last night and wasn’t able to check any journals. We haven’t been here for ages so nice to catch up. We are parked next to a load of hay. No mice seen even though there is a mouse plague in the western parts of the state.

We were greeted by 3 excited farm dogs including one called Toby. We have not had any luck getting our Toby cat back but I’m grateful for the nice comments and encouragement from blippers. We had tried to get him used to our son’s place before this trip away but it didn’t go to plan.

We are having a milder morning with a temp of 2 degrees. Much easier to take than sub zero. We head north so it will get even warmer over the next few days. Today we will still be in familiar country as we used to live in Dubbo but Bob hasn’t been to Lightning Ridge where we are headed today. It’s Opal mining country. I haven’t been further north in that part of Queensland but have been further inland and along the coast.
