Bird on the wire

Soundtrack.

Spotted this goldfinch tweeting away on the telephone wire as we came back from the market. I had time to fetch the camera, go upstairs, and open the window in the loo for a (relative) close-up. I can't recall ever seeing goldfinches here before this year and now there always seem to be some flitting around.

So, the market: I found some local cherries for 5 euros a kilo, cheaper than the inferior Spanish ones, so I bought a kilo and made some jam. Fortunately by this time the sun had disappeared and it was raining quite heavily, so the kitchen didn't get too hot. I still had some of the cherries I bought in Lagrasse on Saturday, so those got turned into compote before it was too late.

Lunch was chunky lamb chops from Arquettes en Val; it should have been a barbecue in the garden, but given the weather it was plancha in the kitchen. Served with delicious new potatoes, and grilled tomatoes with herbs and garlic. Afters: apricots poached in Muscat de St Jean with curd cheese. Better than yesterday's lunch :)

In the early evening we called in for a quick catch up with G and V; G's pregnant daughter and partner are visiting, and we haven't seen them in three years. And back home, it's wine and left over pizza. La belle vie !
