Wound up in Wexford

Hedge woundwort

It was Stoke Open Gardens this weekend.  They've had better weather than we did a couple of years ago.  We had been asked if we would participate, but didn't feel up for the stress of fettling the garden this year.  They only managed to get about 10 or 11 participants this year - I suspect many like us are feeling a bit jaded.  So we did our bit by buying the programme and visiting several gardens.

It's interesting to see that nearly all the ones that we did visit have "wild areas".  The first garden we visited was the same one that I featured on blip 4 years ago.  It's a wonderful garden with a large pond/lake, but much of the area on what is the far side of the pond for the owners in their house has been allowed to run wild.  It's lovely.  This is hedge woundwort, and apparently it has a rather unpleasant smell when crushed, but I didn't notice that, and wouldn't mind encouraging some to grow in our hedge.
