Standing guard

Lovely and busy day following up a few favourite activities on Skye. On a fairly early boat from Elgol to visit Loch Coruisk, where my main achievement was crossing the river on the stepping stones so we could get better views up the Loch. I needed a bit of help and guidance from my travelling companions, but I was much better on the way back than on the way out. Although it was grey to start with, the day gradually brightened up and the views were great. As usual, the boat took a little detour to see the resident colony of harbour seals, basking on the rocks.

After lunch at a mobile greasy spoon (great bacon rolls) that has set up on the machair in Torrin, we headed down the Point of Sleat, stopping at the new Torabhaig distillery, which is in a gorgeous situation (and where L was ID-ed when he bought some whisky!), the ferry port at Armadale to check whether the ferry disruption was likely to affect us on Wednesday (and to decide on our route home on Wednesday), and finally to park up at Aird and walk down towards the Point of Sleat. We were lucky to get parked, but again the walk was lovely. Mr A and I contented ourselves with a trip down to the Harbour, which was as quirky as ever, but the eager young pup we were with needed more exercise, so not only headed out to see a little cairn on top of a small hill by the harbour (see extra), but also visited the sandy beach and the actual lighthouse (which is a bit underwhelming).

After checking out the venue for dinner tomorrow, we headed back to the hotel for showers, beers and a delicious dinner.
