Another Fixer Upper!

Today Pat and I visited Balintore Castle, just west of Kirriemuir.
This Victorian Shooting Lodge had become a ruin, thanks to blocked gutters and subsequent dry rot.

The current landlord has embarked on a course of restoring the Castle. The plan is to restore the building into a form of hotel.

Several rooms have been restored to a good standard including a suite of rooms based around the former kitchen. These are available to hire.

Alongside are several other spaces that are awaiting restoration from a ruinous state. This is a work of several years and several million £s.

The website gives much more information and photographs.
Balintore Castle

The Castle was open for one day to allow people to visit the building and view the progress to date. We had started off in dreich weather, although the rain app showed much better weather at Balintore.

This proved to be the case and we arrived in sunny warm weather. We were greeted at the door with a glass of Pimms.

Covid measures were to a high standard and everyone was masked up. Social distancing was hard to achieve at times but the building was well ventilated with much fresh air.

There were many volunteers on hand to guide visitors around.

After a picnic lunch in a Highland Glen we then travelled home before heading off for an evening meal with Donald H in his fantastic residence which we designed nearly fourteen years ago.

Donald made the main course and Pat supplied the cake which was well up to her normal high standard. A very pleasant evening in very pleasant surroundings.
