My first proper walk since 23rd June, and what fabulous weather! It was a guided walk by my friend and occasional walking and bouldering partner Rachel Bolton of Peak Walking Adventures, free but with a donation invited to the Moors for the Future Partnership

Moors for the Future aims to regenerate vast areas of Southern Pennine moorland by planting sphagnum moss, controlling invasive species and helping the re-wetting of the blanket bog by blocking drainage channels. It's a mammoth task but a globally important environmental project.

We began in Edale and walked up Grindsbrook Clough onto Kinder Scout, skirting round into/onto the plateau so that we could get up close and personal with the peat bog. I've walked up there before, mostly keeping to the very well paved path around the edge of the plateau, placed to minimise erosion, and not with such focus on the benefits of bog.

Rachel's collie Bess was with us, laying on her tummy in any peaty water she could find, and pleading with us to throw sticks. A lovely day, and with Rachel giving me a lift, we enjoyed a good catch up!
