The birthday walk

It has become a tradition to celebrate these three birthdays on a Wednesday walk. Today was Alistair and Peter's birthdays - age total 160 years. Kate celebrates her birthday in 2 days time. Twenty six of us did the walk.

We walked 8 miles from Slaley Village.  At intervals we consumed Madeira and ate brownies, shortbread and malt loaf. Then we went to the Travellers' Rest for liquid refreshment. Thanks to them all.

It was really too hot to walk, but the route did include some lovely, shady woods. I have never seen so many ants, careering around at our feet. We had to be careful when we sat down to avoid their nests.

During the walk, Maureen phoned from Ipswich and Cathy and Bill turned up to have drinks with us. Cathy had hosted the Intermediates for their coffee break at her house in Slaggyford and wondered where I was. It was good to see her and hear about her knee. (Speaking of knees, see the extra! No it is not me!!)

Mum and I are looking forward to cooler weather. After all, we live in the North East and expect it to be cold here.
