1638 storms over Cranbrook Road

An easy day on the railway at Cranbrook Road level crossing. No physical work to do as I had A trainee on his last turn before his passing out turn next week. He’ll be fine.

It meant I could sit in my folding chair outside enjoying the fresh air and, later in the day, warm sunshine while David did all the work and had to answer all the questions he’ll get next week.

1638 was a fine sight and made a tremendous sound as it dragged its 5 coach train up the 1:50 gradient to Tenterden Town. This shot doesn’t do it justice.

So intense was the effort that sparks from firebox started a small grass fire on the opposite side of the gates. We had to use beaters to smother the flames.
