Purple toadflax

Some of the rather excessive amounts of self seeded purple toadflax in our garden.  This specimen has escaped my attentions as yet - but it will be removed, as it is squashing some of our purposefully planted stuff.  But as I discovered when attempting to take a photo this evening in the rather gusty wind, it is well loved by the bees.

We spent a couple hours in the garden this afternoon, weeding a flower bed, and clearing it of some iris.  Some of the iris are pretty, but their flowers are so brief, and some of them were just not flowering.  So we decided that we could do without them.  I then retired indoors to play the flute, whilst poor W continued to slave in the wind, and planted some alstroemeria in the gaps left by the iris.  The iris rhizomes are in boxes at the gate in case anyone local would like to take them.

But it was really rather unpleasant due to the wind, which I gather may be accompanied by lots of rain in parts of the country.  Ideally, with rain forecast for tomorrow here, we would like to apply "weed and feed" to our "lawn" - but with the current wind, I think most of it would end up on the flower beds!
