World Embroidery Day

Who knew?

World Embroidery Day was created by Kerstin Nettelblad and Skåne Sy-d, members of the Swedish Embroiderer’s Guild in 2011. It seems appropriate to show you the June tags for Mum's 2021 project.

She has done two of the July tags so is catching up!  PaulaJ has already completed this week's tag. Congratulations to her.

The topics for June were flowers (ribbon embroidery chosen by Mum), tatting (needle tatting), weaving and a medal for the 26th week of the project.

The other very important event today was the start of the 2021 Corbridge Chamber Music Festival. I was at the 8pm concert with Margret (next door). The concert had already been played at 6.30pm and repeated to a different audience. The church is usually packed out and was only about a quarter full with lots of Covid precautions in place.

We clapped and shouted our appreciation to make up for the empty seats. The music was sublime. I loved hearing a young wind quintet, Lumas Winds tackle the Ligeti Bagatelles. They did very well and showed a maturity beyond their years. It was very exciting.

The Schumann piano quintet in Eflat major, opus 44, was played with total commitment by all the performers. I was on the edge of my seat by the end.

The concert will be on YouTube tomorrow evening at 7pm.
