Theatre

At the end of the working day, PY and I were off on a train into town. Earlier in the year - maybe even late last year - we had acquired tickets to see Come From Away in concert. It was an attempt to keep a production going while social distancing rules were in place. The performance we booked for was postponed and, eventually, turned back into a full production and rescheduled for today. We dashed from Waterloo to Charing Cross Road which was not the most pleasant journey. But, once in the theatre with a glass of wine, we settled in for the show. Although we had actually seen the full production on more than one occasion, today’s show had some new cast members and we were watching from the stalls which gave us a new view (previously, we’d only watched it from one of the higher tiers). It’s such an uplifting show, performed in one act to keep up the pace, but can still bring you to tears. Me & The Sky gets me every time I hear it.

After the show we headed to Ham Yard for a post-theatre meal. PY was getting tired and impatient and, in spite of fast service for dinner at the restaurant, we should have skipped food in town. When the bill came, my share was the same as our entire weekly shop, and I was unable to shake that thought all the way home. I think we are going to have to re-think what we do if we go into town for an evening the future. It was a good night but not worth the amount of money we’d spent.
