Although it was raining our walk in the wood this morning was a good one. Joining the chattering magpies and wood pigeons and squealing buzzards there was lovely birdsong high up in the trees. I couldn’t identify it, but it was lovely to hear.

A helter skelter on a tree
A sight not seen before.
Two red squirrels ran around and down
‘till they reached the forest floor

Pricked ears and fluffed-up tails
Stock still they looked around
Then through wet, wet grass and dripping ferns
They scampered ‘cross the ground

It’s always a treat to see one red squirrel, but to see two together was great fun. Geordie saw them first and I just followed his gaze.

The afternoon was spent reading until it was time to get glammed-up and get the warpaint on. It feels so unfamiliar after wearing dog-walking clothes most of the time for the last eighteen months. But I think I’ve scrubbed up ok.
