A Day In The Life

Silence of the Lambs

We have several wild Lambs Ear plants growing on the property. They began showing up a few years ago along a steep rocky banking near the driveway. We’ve always removed them except for this spring, and for no other reason except it was just easier to let them grow. The stalks grew to an impressive 4-5’ height and provided lovely yellow flowers for the pollinators to enjoy. Some of them grew additional limbs making them reminiscent of cacti. Well, the stalks are dead now and instead of cutting them down, I left them for the birds to enjoy. I was pleased to capture a male downy woodpecker climbing one this afternoon • Unfortunately because we left the stalks intact, this weed will spread even more next spring • I mowed the lawns, watered potatoes and broccoli, and dead-headed cosmos, butterfly bush, marigolds, dianthus, bee balm and hibiscus. Good to have everything trimmed :) • Stay Well!
