Marwick Head and the Brough of Birsay

This morning dawned still and calm. Yesterday's wind has moved elsewhere leaving a lazy sea and barely turning wind turbines. The perfect conditions for a walk to Noup Head. I've done this walk a few times and it's always a good one. The head is dominated by the famous lighthouse but I've blipped it before so today it is relegated to an extra.

The blip is looking south towards the Orkney mainland. On the left is Marwick Head and the bump on it is the Kitchener Memorial. On the right is the Brough of Birsay which is a tidal island. I've been up on Marwick Head and out to Birsay many times. I realise this blip won't mean much to most people but I like it. The air is somehow clear but moody. The sea has barely a ripple. The colours are Orkney's most beautiful muted tones. Definitely worth viewing large if you can.

It's not a long walk so we came back to the cottage for coffee which has turned into lunch. Much food has been consumed this week but there has been walking so that's OK. My plan this afternoon is another walk calling into the Hume Sweet Hume shop for an earnest discussion about shades and styles. We'll eat in tonight watching the light change on Pierowall Bay.
