Leamington Lift Bridge

Wonderful day's walking with the 2nd Saturday Strollers group today - another large compliment of 19-folk turned up (but no dogs this month!) ...

... the walk started along the Union Canal, passing the famous Leamington Lift Bridge (as pictured) - if interested, you can read lots of further information on this fascinating structure via the following links:

& you can even watch it in operation here ;-)

From the end of the canal, we went to and across The Meadows; along and through the Innocent Railway Tunnel; over to Duddingston; visiting Dr. Neil's Garden; and then around Arthur's Seat (didn't have time to do the summit*) before arriving 5-minutes prior to the end of Stage 7 of the Tour of Britain on Queen's Drive, in Holyrood Park. There was a really tremendous atmosphere in the approach to the finish line - regrettably my phone-camera just couldn't pick up the +40mph winning group!

A day of canals/railway paths/lochside gardens/hills/professional cycle racing - all within Edinburgh ... what's not to like :-))

* that's twice in recent months Arthur's Seat has caused me problems!
