Autumnal

Another shot of the view across the alley to the garden of the building across the way.  The leaves have started to turn, and soon there will be some glorious color before the leaves are all  gone.

Thinking about September 11, 2001.  I was at home when my brother-in-law called and told me to turn on the television.  I just watched the television coverage all day and into the evening,  The magnitude of the devastation was so  extraordinary it was hard to believe.  The way the people of the city pulled together was inspiring and encouraging, but it soon became clear that it was business as usual for the rest of the country when Congress refused to authorize funding for repairing and rebuilding in New York.  Twenty years on, it's hard to be hopeful about anything that might require all of us pulling together again, when this madness about Covid-19 is putting up dangerous walls to divide us.
