A Day In The Life

Potential

Today’s capture reveals potential. I keep imagining what this photo would look like if it had been in more capable hands. The setting was breathtaking • It was an incredible morning along the Kennebec river in Hallowell. We spontaneously decided on a breakfast picnic at the river where the sun would shine brightest to warm the early October chill • The low water revealed several logs and rocks scattered along the edges, making the scene a bit busy. A few seagulls and blackbirds poked and searched the mud for food. Suddenly a juvenile eagle swooped down to join them, facing east to catch the sun’s warmth. The trees bordering the river currently shine in bright yellow foliage, reflecting their beauty in the water below. While admiring these reflections I realized a great blue heron was hurriedly hunting for breakfast. A second one was huddled against tall grasses further onshore. It was an amazing collection of wildlife • Breakfast was cold by the time I gave my camera a rest, but it was worth it. Truly a glorious start to our day • But the potential of the photograph still lingers…
