INTO THE WOODS

First full day with sister-in-law today.

We went to Grizedale Forest, via Newby Bridge and Esthwaite Water, which was looking stunning this morning with mirror image reflections - I so now wish we had stopped - but sadly we didn't.

After a coffee, and of course a necessary cake we went on one of the short walks, the yellow one, called the Millwood Trail, which meant going past some of the Gruffalo stops.

We got to a point where you could opt for the short version or the longer one.  We opted for the longer one, which meant some quite steep uphill walking and included some very high steps - which aren't made for people who haver shorter legs!!!!

We managed though, a bit slippy in place.  However when we got to the top there was no waymark to be seen so we turned right, after about 30 minutes it didn't feel right - and guess what - we discovered we should have turned left - it's always that way for us, if there's a choice of two we always somehow choose the wrong one!!!!.

We turned round went past some workmen enjoying a brew form the back of their work vans - they were North West Electrics, where the wires were we couldn't see, so no idea what they were doing - I guess we should  have asked.

At least now we were going downhill.  We somehow started off on the yellow walking trail and returned via the red cycling trail (Carron Crag Trail) - No idea how that happened.

Still a very pleasant walk - not too many people.  When we got back to the cafe inside was still fairly quiet - although quite a few outside, although not  heaving. - so we stayed for lunch.

I had intended to come back via Hawkshead and Ambleside and call into Hayes Garden Centre on the way back.  Somehow, yet again, I missed the turning left to Ambleside (I was the navigator not the driver)  and we ended up going past the upper road over Esthwaite Water, for Far Sawrey, saw Hill Top (home of Beatrix Potter) then turned round, found the turning for Lakeside, so ended up coming home via Lakeside again.

We stopped off in Grange so SIL could do a bit of shopping.  Called into Thyme Out for a cup of tea and then returned home.

A really lovely day.

I have yet to edit all the photos I took.  I do seem to have a problem with the focussing still - I managed to correct quite a few but some now so good.  I will have to figure why!!?  When I've processed them I will make  a collage and share that in a future extras.

Do take care, stay safe and see you all tomorrow.
