Fruit Friday

The gardens here at Dyrham Park nr Bath we’re a little past their best but I loved these espaliered pears fruiting all along the back wall.

We went today largely because I wanted to shop at a National Trust shop rather than ordering on line. I wanted some soap but of course bought much more.
Everybody out today so we were free to do as we pleased.
I’ve been to Dyrham Park twice before from Bristol. Once when Eda was a tiny baby so must be four years ago now and once when Chris and I took Eda when Grace and John were away overnight. On both occasions the key feature of the park besides the house was the deer herd, often just sitting under the trees by the path. Sadly this year the herd was culled due to the prevalence of Bovine TB in the area. Very sad.

Today we took the longer trail around the periphery of the park taking in Prospect Walk, with views to Bristol and the Severn Bridges across the Bristol Channel, before dropping down to the house and gardens.. Sadly it was much duller than yesterday so not a day for view photography.

We had a coffee before tackling the shop and the hill back up from the house to the car park. Looking back gives a classic view of the house which I’ve blipped before and was most recently seen in the screening of Sanditon, Jane Austin’s final unfinished novel.

Heading back, it’s only a few miles away from Bath, we took a brief detour to Swainswick Church and village. We were curious to see it as in the summer months the church has a Pop up Pub on the first Friday evening in the month, Grace and John have been with their neighbours. There are tables and chairs amongst the gravestones! We were also interested as there is a small primary school here that they may like Eda to attend.

Spent the afternoon doing a bit of sewing and then tonight (no bath and bedtime) we are going to see the review show ‘Back to life: BAOS is back’ that Grace is performing in.

Happy weekend everyone!
