Fire engine crews at work in our road

Helena called out to me that there were fire engines in the road after a colleague of her's arrived for a meeting with her. By the time I made it out onto the street the danger had passed. A house far down the road still had a little smoke coming out of an upstairs window, but there was no sense of danger anymore.

I counted more than fifteen fire women and men, several police and one 'Incident Commander' pointing out the work to be done. Three fire engines arrived with ladders onboard. The teams went in and out with various bits of equipment, as well as several people in breathing apparatus.  A young man was sitting on the side of the road looking a bit dazed, as if he had been rescued.

My 'Extra' was taken a little later when tea was brewed and handed around to a select few. There was obviously a special piece of equipment for making a brew, which I think is an excellent idea.

A long time ago, while I was away, one of the houses a few doors down from our home caught fire and was badly burnt. the whole top floor was ruined and the roof 'disappeared'. It was rebuilt quite quickly and the house was sold. Helena told me that it is thought it had been set on fire by one of the owners' children. I am always quite concerned about fire, and am very appreciative of the brave people who work for us on such occasions.
