The long way

We eschewed the M74, this morning, opting to drive back from Glasgow via Kilmarnock and Dumfried, which was far more pleasant, if not quite so scenic as other parts of Scotland. The only downside was a dearth of roadside cafés.

Disappointing purchases from a coffee shop in Thornhill meant that we were feeling fairly desperate by the time we drove through Penrith, where  an unassuming place called The Country Coffee Shop finally came to our rescue. Hooray!

My shot today was taken from just outside the front door of our AirBnB. It seemed to me as though the train line was burrowing its way through suburbia.
