Project 365 day 318: the south east tip of England

This afternoon we walked along a short stretch of the coastal path around the south east corner of Kent. It was our first visit: although it's only about twenty-five miles from home and we've lived here for eight years, we have somehow missed the string of lovely bays below chalk cliffs tucked between Broadstairs and Margate. We began at Joss Bay, above which stands the North Foreland lighthouse, shown in the extra and a familiar name to all who listen to the shipping forecast. The next bay is Kingsgate, with its spectacularly located castle, now divided into flats, on the headland. The quality of the photos is terrible: it was a very gloomy afternoon, and for various domestic reasons we didn't manage to arrive until quarter to four, so it was far too dark for standard hand-held photography. However, the locations are interesting enough for me to think them worth taking and posting, and we will certainly return there in better light and weather. At the other side of this bay there is a wonderful sea arch in the chalk cliff, and we walked on round the "corner" of Kent to look over Botany Bay, one of Kent's best loved beaches. As always, it was lovely to be out, on the coast, and seeing new places after a rather dismal week.
