DIRTY HABIT

Weather today was wet - but mild.  It was so dark Ive had the lights on at home almost all day.   Faffed about doing some chores and then headed down to the village around 4pm.

Decided to blip this hoarding which has appeared on the side of a pub in the village.

This pub has a long history. It was originally The Crown Hotel built in the early 1900s. ( Its a building I remember as I moved into the village in1956 ) The building was totally demolished in1965 and the land was purchased by Bellways the Builders. Bellways built a supermarket, Moores, on the same site with the “The Rose and Crown” public house above the supermarket.  The pub re- opened in January 1966.

The pub closed again in 1999 for major refurbishment and reopened again one month later . It reverted back to its original design with pub facilities being on two floors. The upstairs had a lounge and function room and downstairs a very large bar with pool table.

It had reopened with the new name of  Ye Olde Lang Jack in honour of local character Jack English whose statue now stands outside the pub. The change of name, to Ye Olde Lang Jack, caused a few problems. The regulars of the pub went as far as starting up a petition to get the breweries to revert back to the old name of ‘The Rose & Crown’. The owners did not even acknowledge their complaint.  But In 2012 the pub did revert back to  “The Crown”.

It closed again on 23rd October this year and workmen moved in and gutted the place.  Then this hoarding has appeared announcing a reopening date of 8th December - with the new name of Dirty Habit.  I wonder what the regulars will make of that name.  I must say I'm not keen on it.  Would prefer to stick with the  traditional name of The Crown.
