Life in Sunny Dubai

By GadgetKid

It finally rained today!

I ran out of time to blip this on the last day of the year. What an eventful day it turned out to be. We occasionally see weather forecasts for rain, but nothing comes of it, so when we ventured out in the morning and saw angry black clouds, we didn't think they'd drop their contents on the city. Dubai was, er, flooded!

It just so happened that the rain was worst just when we had to nip out of the car to access a PCR test centre. Catherine needs to do a test 72 hours before her flight. We ended up in a centre between the flat and the Trade Centre. We treated ourselves to lunch at The Square followed by a caramel macchiato at Wafi.

The day was so beautiful, we drove out to the garden centre intending to get a few more plants, but the unfinished road there was too muddy to wade through, so we drove out to show Catherine a bit of desert before finally coming home for a rest.

So, our Plan A for New Year's Eve was to drive to Abu Dhabi in the afternoon for a BBQ at Jeff & Margaret's and then stay overnight, but ADH have added to the requirements to enter, so we decided to stay put and watch the fireworks at the Creek.

Having never done anything like that before on NYE, I was glad I listened to G's advice to leave early. We got there around 10:40 and could see people walking to get their place. The car park was full too, but I managed to get a space right up front. I got our camping chairs out, and we sat in front of the car and waited.
