Nicky and her Nikon

Goodbye, we will be back

Last night after supper we watched the movie The Power of The Dog. I had tried to watch it a few weeks ago but I was tired and was not in the mood and so did not really enjoy it then - last night we all thought it was brilliant, the cinematic style of directing by Jane Campion was excellent, as was the acting. So it was no surprise when I woke up this morning to hear that it had won the Golden Globe for the best movie, best director and best supporting actor.

It was a cloudy day with flat light. As we were leaving around lunchtime everyone decided not to ski. We have been unlucky with the weather on this short visit, from tomorrow it looks like all day sunshine for the next week, it's a pity we missed out on that. Luke and Meriel will at least enjoy that good weather.

After packing up I had a last walk around the village. I know I have photographed these trees so often before, but today I liked the contrast between the russet coloured trees and the monochrome background of those snow covered trees. The first extra is the road I walk down from the apartment to get to the village, and the second extra is the partially frozen reservoir in the village.

We had an early lunch and then said goodbye to Luke and left. He will be on his own for a few days until Meriel joins him later this week. It was an easy drive to Zurich airport, the airport was extremely quiet and we had no problem checking in and getting our Covid documents checked. Surprisingly there were two families at check in who were frantically completing their online passenger locator forms after having found some LFTs to buy at the airport - they clearly had missed the memo about what documents are required to travel.

When we got home, we dropped off our bags and Tommy and Inca and then Gavin and I went to fetch Xena. She was very happy to see us, as were we happy to see her. Fiona loved the Swiss chocolate I gave her as a little gift and was sad to see Xena go as she said she had really enjoyed having her.

I have now unpacked and put on a load of washing, as tomorrow morning Tommy and Inca return to university - term only starts next week but they both have so much work to do and it is easier to work there. We all have done our required Day 2 lateral flow tests, all negative thank goodness.
