Our Land

Our bit of Land is a very irregular shape, and slants in every direction, so it's inordinately difficult to take a photo of it, but this, taken from one of the points of the star-shaped castle bulwarks, shows a fair bit, with the building we're living in on the right (in the thumbnail), and the "top building" on the left, with the São Sebastião chapel (after which our lower tapada* is named) in the middle, on the next ridge over, and Monsaraz on the far side of the Lake.

*A tapada is a bit (or a lot) of Land enclosed within stone walls.

A day spent going round in circles, from post office to town council to library, trying to sort a document to say we live here. Blasted Brexit. Without this document, we are stymied for every other document... Next step is to try the department for foreigners in Évora, again - last time, they weren't seeing anyone.

Gratefuls:
- this beautiful bit of land we've been given, to care for, for a while
- the kindness of folk here; they really want to help us, but it's not easy; as they said, they know we live here, but have to have the right bit of paper
- the satisfaction of assembling one of the chairs we bought, it took us less than eight minutes, and that was the first one; the rest will go even faster
