Some like it hot

We'd have liked it to be hot in the auditorium of the Casa de la Cultura, but it was not apparently worth heating it for the 60 or so people in the audience. Everyone swathed themselves in whatever clothes they had, and shivered anyway. It was an early evening concert of jazz tunes from films (or tunes that could be interpreted as jazz anyway) by the Costa Jazz Quartet. We've seen them before and liked them, plus, live music, how to resist?

Each tune was illustrated by a film poster, from the 20s to the early 60s ... we hadn't ever heard of a few of the films, but they had some good tunes. The band is not amazing, but they're good musicians, especially the pianist and the bass player, and they have a new equally subtle drummer, so it was enjoyable. Special mention to a lovely rendition of As Time Goes By from, of course, Casablanca. They played My Favourite Things again to finish the show, a very unusual arrangement.

As we did last time, we went to old haunt Los Pajaritos for our post-concert drinks. It's such a classic neighbourhood bar. The prices have gone up! It's now 2 euros for a drink and a generous helping of perfect fried fish. We had two drinks each, enough for supper.

In the morning we went to the intercambio on the terrace of the bar down the road. It was a pleasure: we met Russ and Tom from the US, and Beatriz from Jaén. Bea used to be a teacher of Spanish as a foreign language, so she was a definite asset to the group, and we had a good conversation. We'll stick to this one for the moment!
