Fidra

The wind blew and the rain rained overnight. Two beings in the house, one human and one canine, slept and one human didn't. Despite an impressive 28.5K stepcount, some of it uphill. Oh well.

Last night's meal was a bit of a muddle in that when we turned up at the bistro our booking wasn't on the system. Luckily we found somewhere else and the original place gave us free brunch today by way of apology.

After leaving the Airbnb and before brunch we had a walk in the parkland at the Old Lodge. That's where I saw the curlew (extra 1). After brunch we left North Berwick and headed to Yellowcraig beach at Dirleton. Fidra, the island off Yellowcraig, is the main blip. The lighthouse is a Stevenson design, built in 1885.

Both Yellowcraig and North Berwick beaches are familiar from my childhood. Even that long ago they were easily accessible from Edinburgh. They are wonderful long stretches of sand. At Yellowcraig today we were battered by the sand being whisked along in a strong wind. A stimulating walk.

We then stopped at Aberlady nature reserve where I spotted the redshank (extra 2). Not much else was out and about though. I think the wind was inhibiting flight. The rain started so we bade East Lothian farewell and tootled along to the bypass and the drive home.

It's been a lovely weekend. I felt quite adventurous despite going to a familiar place that's not so far away. Definitely a boost to get a change of scene though.
