A haven of peace

Sorely needed. Anything we do seems absurdly trivial in the face of war in Europe, tanks rolling into Ukraine. But I escaped from doomscrolling by walking to Spanish class (since S had the car). When I got there I found that Kelly was the last woman standing ... she had to teach the class because Fifi is still suffering the effects of covid, and Mar had to go to Madrid. However our classmate Michel was back from his skiing holiday. so we had a conversation about holidays, sports, food, and restaurants and bars of Almuñecar. Not too stressful.

Because I walked both ways, that took up most of the morning. It had started to rain while I was walking there, but on the way back the sun came out, so I dawdled, pausing for the obligatory tostada con tomate (with freshly squeezed orange juice this time) at the churreria, and then stopping to wander in the beautiful Moorish garden of the Palacete de la Najarra, a 19th-century neo-Arabic palace which also does duty as the tourist office. It's a lovely spot to sit, full of flowers, birdsong, and tinkling water.

I eventually got home at 1 pm and had lunch on the terrace. But by 4 pm a sudden haze covered the sea, and now it's raining again. Not hard, but the most rain we've had, and the garden will welcome it.

S is now back -- he didn't see any lynxes, but lots of other birds and animals. He's too tired to say more now!
