More sightseeing

This time to Lindisfarne, otherwise known as The Holy Island. We had checked the safe times to cross before coming away, so anytime between 9.40 and 18.40. We arrived at 10.25 and had a very clear run across the causeway. If you are planning to visit, then there is one big car park and prices are either for 3 hours or 24 hours. We were only having a wander, (and the obligatory coffee) so plumped for the 3 hours. We have visited the castle before, so didn't plan to go in, and we definitely were not prepared to pay £9.40 each to visit the Priory ruins when they were mostly visible without going 'in'. We did find a geocache on the far side of the castle, and went in to some Lime kilns. Lots to read about them that was interesting. I can't remember it now, so you'll have to read up if you want to know about it. The church on the island was also very interesting, with lots of info about St Aiden and St Cuthbert. All relevant to this area - but again, I read it, and was interested, but didn't retain the detail and dates.

We had a coffee and shared a cheese scone, and left the island at about 1pm, and drove to Seahouses where we picked up fish and chips and ate it by the harbour. We had to stop in Bamburgh to get an ice cream which we had been promising ourselves all week. It was very nice, and worth the wait. Jon was concerned about one of the trees that had suffered serious damage in the storms. A large 'widow maker' (the term among tree surgeons for a broken hanging branch) was hanging from a tree in the middle of the village. I sent a photo of it to Manda and she is trying to get an appropriate person in authority to deal with it - before it does some damage to a person.

We've packed and relaxed this afternoon. We plan to leave early tomorrow to try and get past Newcastle section of the A1 before too much traffic builds up. We don't want another 9 or 10 hour journey like we had last Friday.

It has been a lovely week. I feel a lot better than I did a week ago and being away has definitely done me good. We have visited lovely places, whilst having perfect accommodation. Sad to go as we have more places we would like to visit - so perhaps if we did get a caravan one day, then we will head this way with it.
