Nelson Mandela….

Today I had a 10 year reunion with four friends who completed a Central America charity ride in March 2012. It was good to see them and remember our amazing trip. Lots has happened in our personal lives in 10 years and we found that between us we now have11 grandchildren. Three of us are still cycling quite a bit but two have given away their bikes but are keen walkers.

We met near the Royal Festival Hall so this is a photo of the bust of Mandela which was unveiled in 1985. The sculpture is by Ian Walters and was commissioned by Ken Livingstone when he was the leader of the GLC.
There are lots of other statues of Mandela in London but this one is well sited and very bold. I understand it was originally on a lower plinth but suffered quite a bit of graffiti so it was given a taller plinth!

Lots of people enjoying a walk in the sun on the south bank today and Waterloo station was very busy with rugby supporters going to Twickenham.
