SILLY SATURDAY - A VISIT TO THE LIBRARY

Hello Lovely Blippers,

It is definitely not a silly thing to do to visit your local library - in fact, most people will say that if you don't use it, you may very well lose it, so when the HCBs said they were going to their local library today, we decided to join them.

We all love reading and for those who can't read, the others will read to them, which is great.  We like all sorts of books and there are always lots to choose from in the HCBs' house, as you can well imagine.

Lillieth, one of Mrs HCB’s friends, keeps saying that she should make all her Silly Saturday entries into a book and we think it would be great to see ourselves “in print” so watch this space!

Off we went in the car to the library - it's a bit too far to walk, and we are very mindful of saving petrol, but we also knew that it would be a long way to walk with a big bagful of books - because the HCBs don't do things by halves - when they go to the library, they bring lots of books back with them.

When Mrs HCB did her Street Challenge on Blip a couple of years ago, as the main library in Swindon is situated in Regent Circus, she spoke to Darryl Moody, who works in the Local Studies department of the library and if you are interested, you can listen to that interview here.  We like to hear about all the things you can do in a library but at the moment, there don't seem to be many using it, which is a shame, but hopefully people will come back very soon.

Mrs HCB has told us that when she was a little girl, you had to be very very quiet in the library – in fact you weren’t really allowed to speak! Now that is silly! How can you possibly be quiet when you find an interesting book and you want to tell your friends about it?

There were so many books in the library that it was a job for us to choose the ones we wanted, although Mr and Mrs HCB didn’t seem to have that much trouble. In fact, Mr HCB is so organised that he has a special system on his computer so that he can record every single book he reads and he takes his printed catalogue with him to the library;  we think that’s a bit silly but he thinks it’s OK and it does mean he doesn’t pick the same book twice!

We know that Admirer used to love books and worked in her father’s bookshop, so we think she would be smiling  happily to see us here today.  Mrs. HCB did ask permission for us all to congregate in the Children's section and we collected lots of different books.  It was quite exciting too, as the lights kept changing colour - they don't have that in the Adults' section of the library - but then they probably wouldn't appreciate it like we did.  It’s just a shame that Hoggy missed out, but we hope to see him again very soon, when he comes out of hibernation.

Take care, lovely friends and have a great weekend - the sun is shining here, so we hope it's shining where you are too - we must go because we have lots of books to read!

Love from
The Silly Saturday Gang xxxx
