Green and Brown

Colours often seen in fritillaria flowers.   Curious and striking but beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I'll leave it to you to decide.   I find them fascinating.   This is Fritillaria elwesii, widespread in southern Turkey where it grows in open pinewoods at up to 3000ft.  It's been long cultivated and is widely available from bulb merchants.  In the garden it likes an open, sunny spot that dries out in summer.   In Norfolk it grew happily in a very sandy raised bed, I'll be trying it in a similar bed here next growing season.

Another busy day at Aber Cafe, although less intense than yesterday.   Jamie and Tilda went out on bikes, Katie kept Meg company - or was it the other way around :-)    Katie stayed on for toad in the hole tonight and we polished off yesterday's baked sponge with lashings of syrup.   Good days just keep coming helped maybe by the wonderful weather.
