Train Ride

Jamie and I took the 'Big' train up the Cambrian Coast Line to Portmadog this afternoon.   In Wales we get our bus pass at 60 and it also gives free travel on the local trains between October and March.  Seeing the opportunity for a free trip slipping away until the autumn and definitely inspired by the weather, we grabbed the chance today.   Lovely views of the hills one side and of the coastline and across the bay the other, it's a delightful journey.  OK, the weather seemed to bring sometimes noisy crowds out but we still had a good time.   With just an hour in Porthmadog, today was a supermarket shop day, we came back with full bags!    Another time we might make a day of it and visit the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways while we're there.   This is the view up the Mawddach estuary from Barmouth Bridge, the longest wooden railway bridge in the UK.   There's a footway alongside the railway which is a fun walk with the promise of an ice-cream in Barmouth at the far end!
