View from Brooksdale

Brooksdale is the name of the O'Connors' farm. It is set in a most attractive area called the Omaka Valley. The farm has sweeping views heading northwest down the valley. The blues mountains in the background of this image are Mount Riley and Mount Sunday.
The reddish trees growing in a row in the image are Claret Ash. They look spectacular once the Autumn colour is set.
It is amazing how much difference just a little rain makes. A short while ago the grass in the paddock and the front lawns of Brooksdale were brown and dried up looking. The rain we have had in the last month has been enough to green up the lawns and the paddock quite dramatically.
Michael has young beef cattle fattening up in the front paddock. He is "feeding out" hay to them in order to save the new green grass from being eaten out.
We need a lot more rain and mild weather in order to get some decent amounts of Autumn growth to see the farms through the Winter.
We may be in luck rain-wise in the next few days with heavy falls being predicted in the north of the South Island this coming Tuesday. Fingers crossed that the forecasters are right for once!
