A Day In The Life

Stop, Look & Listen

Over the past two days our backyard has been frequently visited by large groups of American Robins and European Starlings, a United Nations of sorts :) It’s early spring, they’re hungry and they’re eagerly hunting tasty earthworms and beetles • I enjoy watching the robins hop and bob across the ground. Suddenly they stop to look. Often leaning in a little closer to listen, cocking their heads to one side. They’re so stealthy! The strike comes quickly, when their beak penetrates the loose earth to grab that unsuspecting worm crawling just below the surface, or that sluggish still-sleepy underground beetle. Hopefully soon I can get a picture of a robin with a fresh dangly worm…stay tuned! • The song “When The Red Red Robin” was written in 1926 by Harry Woods, both the music and lyrics :)
