The new joinery

This morning S and I along with daughter J went to the joinery factory where they have made new joinery for the road frontage of the house. Currently the door does not function as the front door; when the new joinery is in place, the front door will be on the front of the house. One of the major steps in the changes is due to be completed next week.

This afternoon I worked for two hours in the garden. The major change effected was that I emptied most of soil out of the old concrete laundry tubs on the edge of the property. I had earlier pulled out the rather tired old plants that had been there, and S was keen to plant the clivias rescued from Fidelis in there instead.

It only took a couple of uses of the long handled shovel, the handle of which I thought I had broken and then decided that I hadn't, to demonstrate that the handle was indeed broken and it came apart. It was actually easier to then use the fork as I extricated large chunks of solid clay from one of the tubs; the one in which the extra shows the clivias looking reasonably healthy.

When I moved onto the other tub, I uncovered a large number of bulbs, which neither of us could identify. My inability was a given; as a gardener, I provide the muscle rather than any knowledge. Those bulbs have been carefully placed elsewhere until their identity is established. mean while S put in a lot of other bulbs, which I covered and also put back a succulent which I had extricated weeks ago.

A satisfying afternoon.
