Bike Works

This is an old photo of the bike I commuted to the UW in the 70s and to 2 different studios downtown after that.  We’ve been trying a long time to get rid of it (death cleaning you know) so when we got a notice from REI (Recreational Equipment Inc) that they had certain collection days for used bike donations , we knew this was the way to go.
Every Year, Bike Works processes between 6,000-8,000 bike donations…that’s over 250,000 pounds diverted from landfill in the form of clean reliable transportation for youth and adults.
We had to go today to a mall about 25 minutes north… (we'd go to the one closest to us but plan to be gone on that day) .a really bad idea on Sunday …there was a traffic jam everywhere…I could NOT imagine so many cars looking for parking at a mall..it was horrible!   So H had to put the wheels back on (had to take them off to fit in the car..we don’t have a bike rack now) while I waited in a no parking zone…I would have taken it’s picture there but no time….hence the old one.
I just wanted to document it…we tried to look up the year it was built…then paint jobs varied year by year.  Think it was early 70s.  REI will spruce it up and someone (tall) can use it!   MY newer bikes have found family to take them.    Now we only have 1 bike left.. ..  Herb's that we could ride on rails if we wanted to.  Done with outside years ago and now I wouldn't risk it.
