Neidpath Tunnel

Having cleared the old hedge out, TT was back in the garden this morning digging over the ground.  Once he was done, he and I headed to Peebles, leaving BB to his revision to be fuelled by a fridge load of food!   The drive there, through the hills,  was lovely.  We parked up, and walking along the main street we were immediately caught in a rain shower.  Thankfully it didn’t last and we set off up the River Tweed to Manor Bridge, then up the hill.  TT wanted to descend through the trees so we could walk through the disused railway tunnel.  We got a bit lost in the woods and came down to the river on the wrong side of the tunnel, so had to walk back to get to the entrance.    He had even brought his head torch for this bit of the walk, except he hadn’t checked the batteries. At least I had my phone and we walked through using my phone torch light to guide us.  We weren’t alone, as someone was walking behind us, and we met a couple of people walking towards us.

We walked back along the river to Peebles and were both ready for lunch.  It was really hot as we walked back along the High Street to the car.  We drove along the Tweed Valley, stopping in Gala briefly before parking up in Melrose and walking another circuit of the River Tweed in the late afternoon sunshine.

It was then home to cook tea.  BB appeared eventually, having been out playing football.

This is TT exiting the tunnel. The first extra is him walking by the Tweed at Melrose.  There are so many leaves and flowers appearing.  I spotted these lovely new chestnut leaves near Peebles and this apple blossom in Priorwood garden in Melrose.
