Quod oculus meus videt

Late Light

Another working day, including three more visits to properties where the owners have invited Ukrainian guests to join them.

It really is most inspiring to meet these families.  They have all had to make significant effort so that they can support their guests.  In most cases it is the visa situation holding people up, but some of the stories they can already share of the circumstances being endured not only in Ukraine, but also in the neighbouring countries where many of the families have fled to and are in very temporary accommodation are most upsetting.

One family I met were quite apprehensive, having heard horror stories of the requirements some local authorities have placed on others before approving their homes for use.  Thankfully, we have been much more pragmatic, treating the situation as that of family guests coming to stay.  We do require some things that we see as essential, like gas safety certificates, but we appreciate that things are happening quickly and that it is the willingness of people to share their homes that is paramount.  As long as there is the space to accommodate people and make them comfortable we are trying to make it work for everyone.

It was late when I got back and I only had a quick chance for a walk with L around the park.  I have an infra red converted camera which is great fun to use in the bright conditions we had at the end of the day.  I had it converted so that I could do what is called false colour infra red, where you can get golden foliage and blue skies, but on this occasion I added a filter to the front of the lens with another infrared filter of longer wavelength.  This creates these very contrasty black and white images after processing.
