WHY, OH WHY...

...can I always see something wide when it’s not Wide Angle Wednesday?

After a great service at Church, we stayed for coffee and a chat and then went out for a drive - we don’t use the car that much, so feel we can indulge ourselves a little on a Sunday.

We went out to Lechlade and then took the Burford road, cutting off towards The Barringtons on a single track road with passing places.  I really wanted to find a field with oil seed rape, because the colour is just so spectacular at this time of year.  We were also blessed with a beautiful blue sky and white fluffy clouds, so I was well pleased when we came upon this field on the road to East Leach.

We decided to park the car, and Mr. HCB’s knee held up, so we wandered along the road, where I took several shots and of course, it looked better with a Cotswold stone wall in the foreground.  The smell wasn’t as pungent as we have known it previously, and it was great to be out together to enjoy our beautiful English countryside.  I took a selfie, which I have put in as an extra - it seems unbelievable that yesterday was so grey and cold and yet today, we wandered along without a coat on - something we wouldn’t have done yesterday - oh the vagaries of the English weather!

We both said that in the present situation, the farmers who have planted oil seed rape must be rubbing their hands together because now there is a shortage of various oils, Ukraine being the main producer in the world of sunflower oil, those producing oil from their crops will be in great demand.  Obviously, now the News has highlighted the shortage of oil and the fact that it is being rationed in many supermarkets, people will start panic buying yet again.

We meandered home through more country lanes, just enjoying our lovely countryside on a beautiful sunny day - I just hope the weather holds for when I am in North Yorkshire.

“Britain still has the most beautiful countryside
     of anywhere in the world.
I would hate to be part of the generation
that allowed that to be lost.”
Bill Bryson
