A Grand Day Out

No, not the movie, but Mrs W and yours truly actually got out of the house for the first time in ages for something which wasn’t medical!!

Not that it started that way, because my first trip of the day was to Grantham to get my booster jab.  However it was such a nice day and after I got home we thought we would take a drive out: somewhere.

We decided to check out Willow Tree Fen and Deeping Lakes, both Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust (of which we are members) sites.

A lot has changed with Willow Tree Fen since we were last there.  We used to drive to the disabled parking the other side of the site and use the hide there, but since lockdown Cranes  have successfully returned to the site:

“In 2020, with the extra solitude created by lockdown, cranes returned to the Lincolnshire Fens and successfully raised a chick. They have now become largely resident, leaving the reserve only for a short period in the depths of winter.” - extract from LWT website

We then drove on to ‘Deeping Lakes’.  Nothing has changed there, at all!  We had pleasant hour or so sitting in the car park with a view over some of the smaller lakes, and I took umpteen photos ALL of them rubbish - so the blip is where the road to the hides was at Willow Tree Fen.  Apparently the car park is literally the road, well they had to put it somewhere.
