a lifetime burning

A moment of transition

Bird on a stick or bird in flight?

Does it count as a bird in flight if the bird still has one foot on the branch, I wonder?  The Dunnock certainly can't change its mind at this point,  it is now fully committed to setting off.  It might have been hesitating up to this point in its bird brained fashion, "shall I stay or go, what is the Blipper with the big lens up to" etc. But the point of no return has now been reached, and passed, the Dunnock is no longer able to settle back on the branch.

People often confuse Dunnocks with sparrows  and for sure, they are certainly sparrow-like.  But they have a delightful song and, if you pay attention you can see that they have some lovely details in the markings of the feathers, even if they are all brown and grey.

Just a reminder  that tomorrow, being a Tuesday, is an opportunity for close up photography with the Tiny Tuesday challenge.  For my sins I've volunteered to host the challenge for April.

Close up photography can be done with a  specialist macro lens but it doesn't have to be, you can use an existing lens with an extension tube, or even just use your phone.  Many phones can now produce really excellent close up results.

So please feel free to post a close-up image of anything that catches your eye tomorrow, and I'll give hearts to my favourites later in the week once I have had the chance of looking at all the entries.

The tag for tomorrow, Tuesday 26 April, will be  TT361
