Rivoli's Hummingbird

Getting caught up for this week!

This the largest hummingbird that hangs around in the Santa Rita Mountains and other parts of southeast Arizona year-round and the second largest that visits the U.S.  Several years ago, the named was changed from Magnificent to Rivoli's.  Why?

It was hotter than heck yesterday, hitting 100°/38° for the first time this year, beating Phoenix to the punch.  It was the third earliest ever. The earliest was 19 Apr 1989. We usually expect triple digits near the end of May. Recently, the NWS announced that the metro Tucson area is the fastest warming area in the country.

Since I'm not one to look at forecasts, I figured a trip to the canyon would be appropriate today. I was happy to get this perched Rivoli's hummer.
